Tips to Prioritize Your Work Tasks

It can be hard to run a business and give tasks to your employees, when you have multiple things that need to be done at once. You may not even know where to start. However, by prioritizing what needs to be done today and what can wait, you will find yourself more productive, both as a boss and as someone who gets things done.

So, how can you do this? Here are some tips to prioritize your work tasks.

Figure out which tasks are the most important. When you have a list of all of the things that need to be done, you have to figure out which ones are the most important. It may be as easy as starting with the ones that are due today. You may also want to run a report, to see which marketing tasks are getting the most hits. You are going to want to focus on those things and maybe not so much on the tasks that don’t really help your business as much.

Get a calendar and a to-do list to help you manage your tasks. If you have a calendar, you can write down all of your deadlines. Then, you can start to organize what tasks need to be done and when. You may even want to block out certain times to accomplish what needs to be done. You may want to put down working on this task for an hour, and then another task for that hour, to help you organize your day and time!

Avoid distractions. Whether you are working from home or in your office, there are going to be times when you simply can’t be interrupted. You may want to put a note on your door so that nobody stops by to ask for your advice. It also helps to put your phone away, so you can focus on the tasks at hand.

You also need to give yourself breaks. No matter how much needs to be done, you are going to need to take breaks to stay fresh. Even getting up and walking around the office to clear your head may help you refocus on what you are doing.

If you are overwhelmed by all that you have to do, it might be best to write them all down and figure out what is more important than others. It may help to get a calendar, so you can focus on your deadlines. You may also want to use this to set aside time to do certain tasks. However, don’t forget to give yourself breaks to help you regain focus!
