How to Motivate Your Employees During Challenging Times

When you’re going through challenging times, it’s easy for people to become demotivated. We’re all used to going to our offices during the day and socializing with people in the evenings. So it’s hard to accept that we’re going to have to miss out on the things we take for granted such as going to movies, going to coffee shops, taking walks etc.

It’s not that these things are absolutely forbidden, but since it’s necessary to maintain social distancing, we all have to cut down on these simple pleasures and this can result in a lack of motivation. How do you, as an entrepreneur, encourage your employees to keep going, given this situation?

Encourage Employees to Stay in Touch

If your employees are working from home, they’re going to be alone a lot of the time (or they may only have family members for company). In such cases, it’s important for them to stay in touch with you and with each other. This will help them to get work done at home. But it will also give them some human contact which is sorely needed during challenging times.

Set Daily/Weekly Goals

Another way to make sure that employees stay motivated is by setting daily or weekly goals for your business. Of course, you have to make sure that the goal is a reasonable one because setting an unreasonable goal can actually discourage your employees rather than encouraging them. But if you set small, achievable goals for each day and reward your employees with a word of praise, that will motivate them to keep going.

Stay Positive/Encourage Positivity

When you’re going through challenging times, you may find that a lot of people are spreading false information and sensationalizing things which do not need to be sensationalized. Try to avoid this type of messaging and discourage your employees from discussing things in this way.

Instead, it’s a good idea to try to stay positive. Think about everything that can be achieved during this challenging period and go about trying to achieve it in a systematic way. This doesn’t mean that you have to keep your head in the sand. You can avoid false information and false news but stay up to date on what’s really going on in the world.
