5 Tips for Implementing a Growth Culture for Success

Any wildly successful company has figured out a few keys to growth. Here’s some of the best.

  1. Find your why. This one is for the top of the company, so if you are the owner, or even a part of the executive team, this falls on you. You have to see clearly what problem you are solving, and why you care so much. Darren Hardy, author of the Compound Effect, calls this your “why-power”. This may link back to what you believe about life and people. Eventually, you can develop this into a mission statement. Then go tell your people your why power, and that you want to grow.
  2. Passion. Share passion with your team, and get them on board. Make a video explaining your why, and talk about why your mission matters. Talk about who benefits, and how that can impact the world. People want to make a difference at work, not just shuffle papers and type emails.
  3. Set goals together. Did you know you are 42% more likely to achieve your goals if you write them down? This is true for individuals, but also true for companies. Want results? Get a core group of individuals together and set a few SMART goals.
  4. Collaborate.  Work together on strategies to meet the goals. You will immediately have roadblocks that come to mind. Give yourself (and your team) the time and mind space to let these thoughts play out. Write it all down. Then give yourself a space to brainstorm solutions. Let individuals take responsibilities toward implementing strategies that bring you across the goal line. Keep in mind that at this phase, you may need to invest and enable your employees to do more. This may be a temporary overtime approval, or approving the expense of traveling or ordering a new book to read.
  5. Celebrate together! If you are committed to success, and have a good team in place, you will be achieving your goals in no time. Be sure to plan a celebration. You don’t have to hand out cash prizes either (although some would appreciate that). Spending quality time with your team, or bringing in bagels on a Friday can also be a nice recognition for performance.

Growing a company takes time and a lot of passion. The good news is that it’s more effective, and more fun, when teams work together to achieve important goals.
