Hosting an Annual Employee Health Fair Benefits Both Employer and Employee

Employees like knowing that their company cares about their lives and their health. Hosting an annual employee health fair can show them the appreciation they deserve, while also giving them valuable information that will help them to stay healthier. The bottom line for the employer is a happier workforce with a lot less absenteeism due to sick days.

If it sounds like an expensive proposition, let us assure you that it really isn’t. Most of the people (vendors) that you contact will gladly offer their time and services–for free. That’s right, we said free. They view these type of fairs as great advertising for their business. After all, where else can they get a captive audience to show their products or services to?

What type of vendors can you contact? The following list is only a beginning as the possibilities are far too numerous to note here. These options are intended to get your creative juices flowing, but remember, keep in mind how big a space you have to fill with vendors. You want to make sure there is plenty of room for both vendors and employees.

Vendors That Will Likely Come For Free

Massage therapist–with mobile massage chair. It is not unusual for a massage specialist to offer free 5 minute massages to employees. This can quickly become one of the most popular vendors at your event. You will want to book two if at all possible.

Yoga Instructor–They may simply pass out flyers and coupons, or they may be open to giving a mini class to give your employees a taste of what they offer.

Insurance Vendors–If your company offers health and dental insurance, be sure to get them into the act. Health insurance companies can offer free blood pressure check-ups, and dental carriers can give out free dental toothbrushes and floss.

Your local YMCA, and local gyms and workout centers–ask them what they might offer for your fair. They may send a personal trainer that will give your employees a quick fitness checkup and suggestions on how to improve their fitness level.

Check with your local hospitals to see if they offer any free mobile services like blood sugar checks, etc.

As we said earlier, this is not a conclusive list, there are plenty of other options out there to consider, but these can get you started. Also, once you have contacted them and they agree to participate in your health fair (for free), ask them if they would be willing to donate a door prize or small goody bag treat for your employees. You’ll be surprised at the bounty of prizes and goodies you can amass for your attendees.

The annual health fair can quickly become an event that your employees look forward to each year. Make it fun, and your workers won’t even know that you have an ulterior motive for getting them healthy!
